Webinar: Financial and Tax Strategies for Growing Businesses

In a recent virtual session, the Colombian American Chamber Of Commerce Miami hosted the event “Webinar: Financial and Tax Strategies for Growing Businesses.” The session was designed to address key strategies aimed at strengthening companies’ financial structures, optimizing resource allocation, and enhancing decision-making to ensure sustainability and growth in a competitive environment.
The session was led by experts from DBCS (Do Business Create Solutions), who shared their expertise in financial and tax management within the U.S. market.
- Dominic Bisceglia: CEO and Founder of DBCS. He is a financial leader with dual degrees in International Business and Finance and brings more than a decade of experience as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO), driving financial strategy and operational success to help companies overcome stagnation and grow on solid foundations.
- Juan Felipe Barreto: Business Development Manager at DBCS. He holds a degree in International Business from Universidad EAFIT and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance at Florida International University. He has eight years of international experience and is fluent in four languages.
The speakers discussed the critical financial and tax stages throughout a company’s lifecycle, from formation to maturity.
- Business Structure and Formation: To illustrate the consequences of poor planning, the speakers emphasized the critical importance of selecting the appropriate business structure (such as an LLC or C-Corporation) from the outset. They presented a real case in which a client, due to an incorrect structure, was required to pay an additional $20,000 in Medicare and Social Security taxes, underscoring the serious consequences of errors made during the initial setup.
- Operations and Compliance: The experts outlined key elements of day-to-day financial management. They emphasized the need for proper bookkeeping, payroll administration (distinguishing between W-2 employees and 1099 contractors), accounts payable and receivable management, and compliance with sales tax obligations.
- Growth and Strategic Management: The session also addressed challenges that arise during expansion, such as cash flow pressure. The speakers explained how a company may show positive operating cash flow while experiencing negative net cash flow due to investments in assets or capital distributions to owners. These examples highlighted how proactive financial management is essential at every stage of the business lifecycle, from startup to expansion.
The core value of the webinar lay in its focus on empowering business owners. By providing clarity, confidence, and the freedom to make decisions based on reliable data, the session equipped attendees with the necessary tools to avoid costly mistakes, particularly those unfamiliar with the complex regulatory environment of the United States.
A follow-up in-person event featuring Dominic Bisceglia and Juan Felipe Barreto has been scheduled for next January 22 at Urbe University.
